Chiquita Canyon Landfill Litigation
The Chiquita Canyon Landfill threatens the health, safety, and well-being of the Val Verde community and surrounding areas. After months, if not years, of being impacted by the Landfill, residents filed a lawsuit on August 25, 2023, to call for the close of the Landfill, mitigation of impacts on the community, and damages to be paid to residents impacted.

Case Updates
On December 31, 2024, CCL announced it’s closure. SOM addresses our thoughts and ongoing concerns.
On November 22, 2024, we filed a new case against the Landfill to address the claims of minor children.
On September 30, 2024, the Court declined to let Petitioners challenge the County’s decision to permit the landfill to continue taking in trash and processing hazardous waste onsite without any CEQA analysis.
Wednesday, Sept. 25, a hearing & press conference will be held in relation to our CEQA Case, Citizens for Chiquita Canyon Closure v. County of Los Angeles.
